Joining the Wonde Marketplace: What the Set-Up Was Like

Drafted with AI assistance and reviewed, fact-checked and edited by hand before publishing - see our AI transparency page for how we use AI across the app.

Wonde

Spelling.Live is now an official Wonde partner, available in Wonde's app directory, with its own page and a short video showing how it works. You can see it here: Spelling.Live on Wonde.

If your school already uses Wonde to connect its management information system to the apps it trusts, that page is where you can see what Spelling.Live is, what it reads and what the school is agreeing to. We wanted to write down what joining was like, because the question we hear from schools is not "does it work?" but "how much work is it for us?".

The set-up, in the order it happened

  1. A sandbox first. Wonde gives app builders a test school with made-up pupils and staff. We built and tested the whole import against it before any real school was involved, so nothing about a real child was ever used to develop it.
  2. The school stays in control. Wonde's model is that a school approves each app itself, in Wonde's own portal. Until it does, the app can read nothing. We did not need to build a separate permissions system for this, because Wonde's is the one schools already know.
  3. Teachers only see their own classes. Spelling.Live matches a teacher's confirmed school email to the staff records, and checks that again every time a class is opened. That was the part we were most careful about, and it is built so the school's approval alone never lets a teacher see someone else's pupils.
  4. Real classes next. Once a school had approved the app, we brought its first classes across with the teachers. The import worked as it did in the sandbox: a preview of each pupil as new or already in the class, a tick for who to bring across, and logins created the usual way.
  5. A listing and a video. Wonde then published our directory page, so a school can find us, read what we ask for and watch the walkthrough without needing to talk to us first.

What it means for a teacher

  • No retyping the class list. Pupils come across from the school's own records.
  • Run it again and nobody is duplicated, because each pupil is remembered by their Wonde id and not just their name.
  • Changes are shown, not applied. Each night Spelling.Live compares a class with the school's list and leaves the teacher a short notice if pupils have joined or left. It never adds, moves or removes anyone by itself. The teacher decides from the import preview.
  • Pupils can sign in with MyLogin, Wonde's single sign-on, or with the printed QR login labels that keep working on shared tablets.

What it reads, and what it does not

Spelling.Live reads each class and each pupil's name, and keeps the stable id Wonde gives them. We do not read dates of birth, contact details, grades, attendance or any pupil's records. Pupils do not need an email address. Our data protection pack has the full detail for your data protection officer.

Try it with your school

Teacher accounts are free to start, with 500 AI credits a month, which covers regular practice for a class. If your school already uses Wonde, you can find us on Wonde and send the page to whoever approves apps. If you would like us to walk through it first, ask for set-up help.

For the full explanation of how the import works, read Spelling.Live Is Now Live on Wonde. If your school does not use Wonde, you can still import a class from Google Classroom or paste a list.
