Support and accessibility settings
Each child can have their own reading font, text size, spacing, colour overlay, speech speed and handwriting settings. Here's what each one does.
Where to find them
Open your child's card and tap 🔧 Settings (you need to be signed in). Every child has four sections: About them, How they practise, Support & access and Safety & sharing. Settings are per child, so changing one never changes a sibling's. These are in Support & access, with a live preview of how reading will look.
Reading and seeing
Text size
Normal, Large or Extra large.
Spacing
Relaxed or Roomy letter and line spacing, to reduce crowding.
Colour overlay
Cream, blue, mint, rose or grey tints over the practice screen.
Hearing, writing and games
Speech speed
Normal, Slow or Slower for every word and sentence read aloud.
How strictly we read handwriting
Strict, Standard or Forgiving. Forgiving gives look-alike letters the benefit of the doubt without accepting real misspellings.
Gentler handwriting
Kinder feedback messages when handwriting is checked.
Calm games
Hides streaks, leaderboards and countdown timers in the bonus games. Practice stays the same.
Screen-reader friendly games
Game controls labelled for assistive technology.
Picture hints
Show a picture clue automatically for each word - helpful for visual learners.
Common questions
Do support settings change how my child is marked?
Only the handwriting setting does, and only for look-alike letters. Everything else changes how words look and sound, not how they are marked.
Can siblings have different settings?
Yes. Every setting is per child.
Is there a dyslexia-friendly font?
