Times and days
Any time between 6:00 am and 9:59 pm, so nothing buzzes at night. Choose every day, weekdays, weekends or any days you like. Switching a reminder off keeps your time and days, ready for when you switch it back on.
A little practice every day builds the habit. In the Spelling.Live app for iPhone, iPad and Android you can set a daily reminder for each child, on the phone or tablet they practise on. You choose the time and the days, and the reminder stays quiet on a day they have already practised.
Open the app on the device your child uses, tap Settings on their card, then open Safety & sharing. Under Reminder on this device, switch on Daily practice reminder, pick a time and tick the days. The first time, your phone or tablet asks whether Spelling.Live may send notifications: tap Allow.
After your child has practised on the device, their card may also offer a reminder at about the time they just practised. Tap Yes, remind us to accept it, or Not now to hide the offer for a month. You can change either in settings at any time.

“Ava, time for your spelling practice!” It names your child and nothing else: no words, no scores. If two children are due at the same time, they share one notification (“It's time for Ava & Ben to practise spelling”).
If your child has already practised on that device today, today's reminder is skipped. The device cannot see practice done on another device or on paper, so it may still remind them then.
Send a test reminder shows one a few seconds later, so you can check notifications are getting through. It works once a minute.
A reminder belongs to the phone or tablet it was set on. Set it on the device your child practises on; it does not follow your account to other devices.
The device schedules about four weeks of reminders at a time and tops them up whenever the app is opened. If the app goes unopened for four weeks, reminders stop until it is opened again.
Open Settings → Spelling Live → Notifications and turn on Allow Notifications. Also check a Focus mode is not silencing it.
Open Settings → Apps → Spelling Live → Notifications and turn them on, including the “Practice reminders” category. Battery saving can delay a reminder by a few minutes.
If the settings card says to update the app, install the latest Spelling.Live from the App Store or Google Play. Reminders need the newest version.
The website cannot send notifications, so device reminders only work in the app. In the same Safety & sharing section, Email reminders if practice slips emails every linked parent when a child has not practised for a few days. It works on any device and can be used as well as, or instead of, the daily reminder.
Reminders are scheduled by the device itself. Your child's first name, the time and the days are kept on that device and are not sent to us, to Apple or to Google. There is no push server and no account-level setting. See our privacy notice for more.
No. Reminders are notifications on the phone or tablet, so they only work in the Spelling.Live app for iPhone, iPad and Android. On the website, turn on the email reminders in the same settings section instead.
A reminder belongs to the device it was set on. Set it on the phone or tablet your child actually practises on. Setting it on one device does not turn it on anywhere else.
The reminder is skipped on a day your child has already practised on that device, on a day you have not ticked, and when notifications are turned off for Spelling.Live in the device settings. If the app has not been opened for four weeks, reminders also stop until it is opened again.
Nothing is sent to us when a reminder is set or shown. The child's first name, the time and the days stay on the device, which schedules the notification itself. If you tap a reminder to open the app, we count that the app was opened from a reminder, without the name or time.
